Right now Ollie’s family are facing the tough challenge of raising £40,000 for an operation not currently available on the NHS which will greatly improve Ollie’s quality of life and potentially keep him from being wheelchair bound by the time he is a teenager.
Ollie, of Burnett Lane, Horton Heath, was born 14 weeks premature at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, in Winchester, but was transferred to Southampton to a specialist baby care unit at the Princess Anne Hospital.
He suffered a bleed on the brain leaving him with cerebral palsy, which affects his legs, meaning he can only walk with the help of a walking frame.
Ollie has been to see a specialist at Bristol Children’s Hospital for a life changing operation called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) but unfortunately it is no longer available on the NHS.
The cost will be in excess of £40,000, which will cover the operation, intense physio for a couple of years and equipment required to make it a success.
